چکیده
This subject is presented under three main headings: A. Effect on Apico-Basal Diameter of the Diseased Lung. B. Effect on the Differential Vertical Relaxation of the Upper and the Lower Lobes. C. Effed on the Transverse Diameter of the Base of the Lung. A. The Effect of Pnevmoperitcmeum Compared with Pneunzuperitonsum CombCned with Phr& Paralysis on the Apico-Basal Diameter of the Diseased h n g . Banyail (1946) reported on 40 patients. With pneumoperitoneum alone, the maximum elevation of the diaphragm on inspiration was 7.3 ern. on the right side and 6.4 cm. on the left side. Thompson Evans2 (1953) made a study of reduction of apico-basal diameter after pneumoperitoneum, and pneumoperitoneum plus phrenic crush.

Apico-basal diameters of the lungs and mediastinal shift in phrenic nerve crush and pneumoperitoneum therapy; a study of eighty cases.
The objects of this paper are (a) to report on a study of mediastinal shift and apico-basal diameters of the lungs in a series of 80 patients undergoing phrenic nerve crush and pneumoperitoneum therapy for pulmonary tuberculosis: (b) to discuss the mechanism and therapeutic significance of the mediastinal shift. Although studies of mediastinal shift following phrenic nerve paralysis alone have ...
متن کاملPneumoperitoneum Treatment in Pulmonary Tuberculosis with Reference to Lower Lobe Lesions
are already established as recognized methods of treatment in pulmonary tuberculosis. Pneumoperitoneum has not been so universally accepted. However, it is making its way on its own merits and is being used on a steadily increasing scale in India. In some institutions abroad it is extensively used with encouraging results. The character and pattern of pulmonary lesions are so varied and complex...
متن کاملA modified conception of phrenic nerve crush and pneumoperitoneum therapy.
The object of this paper is to present a modified view of the mode of action of phrenic nerve crush and pneumoperitoneum therapy in pulmonary tuberculosis. In a study of mediastinal shift in a series of 80 cases of phrenic nerve crush and pneumoperitoneum therapy (Fox, 1950) it was found that the average mediastinal shift to the left in the cases with right phrenic paralysis was 1.6 cm., and to...

The treatment of tuberculous cavities in the lower lobe is difficult. Simple measures such as phrenic paralysis with or without pneumoperitoneum, artificial pneumothorax, postural retention, chemotherapy and bed rest, alone or in combination, have proved effective in only two-thirds of the patients, and, even in these, relapse has been frequent. Crofton (1949), reviewing a series of 54 cases in...
متن کاملActivation of Inward Rectifier Potassium Channels in High Salt Impairment of Hydrogen Sulfide-Induced Aortic Relaxation in Rats
Introduction: Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) plays a key role in the regulation of vascular tone and protection of blood vessels against endothelial dysfunction. Since the mechanism of salt impairing H2S-induced vascular relaxation is not fully clear, therefore this study was designed to investigate the role of potassium (K+) channels in the vasodilatory effects of exogenous H2S in rat aortic rings.&nb...
